SNAKEDOCTORS jest jednym z najbardziej zapracowanych zespołów ostatnich lat. Nawet okres pandemii nie przeszkadza chłopakom w graniu i promowaniu swojej muzyki w każdy możliwy w takich specyficznych czasach sposób. Do tego potrzeba tworzenia nowych utworów tak mocno ich rozpiera, że stale komponują, piszą i nagrywają. W 2020 wydali album „Obligation”, a w roku następnym pojawiły się aż dwa kolejne albumy. Pierwszy z nich zatytułowany został „Joy Free Bowl”.
Jak dla mnie ta płyta jest znakomitym rozwinięciem poprzedniczki. Podobnie jak w przypadku „Obligation” otrzymujemy kilkanaście kawałków w znacznej części utrzymanych w klimacie dark i cold wave. Ale zauważalna jest też dość wyraźna różnica w stosunku do tamtej płyty. Według mnie, mniej jest w tej muzyce nawiązań do muzyki grunge’owej, za to częściej zespół sięga po alternatywno – eksperymentalne działania zespołów lat siedemdziesiątych. Momentami odnoszę wręcz wrażenie, że nad produkcją wielu kawałków czuwał sam… Lou Reed. A to oczywiście powoduje zupełnie inny odbiór albumu, zdecydowanie wpływa na jej klimat. I cóż mogę dodać, mnie ta zmiana akurat bardzo odpowiada.
Bo kawałki, które bym wyróżnił, które zrobiły na mnie największe wrażenie, to właśnie te najbardziej kojarzące się z dokonania Reeda. To oczywiście nie są żadne podróbki, ale posiadają podobny klimat i bardzo żałuję, że zespół nie zamieścił na płycie tekstów, bo niestety mój angielski nie pozwala na zapoznanie się w z przesłaniem testowym zespołu. A to w przypadku takiej muzyki jest niezwykle ważne. Co to za numery? Już śpieszę z odpowiedzią: „Sweeter”, Snake Doctor”, One Way Creature”. Świetne, klimatyczne, oszczędne w środkach, mocne w wyrazie. Takie właśnie, jakie powinny być.
Jako ciekawostki, na krążku zawarte zostały różne wersje kilku utworów, pokazuje to, że panowie potrafią bawić się swoją muzyką. Świetnie wypada balladowy numer „Has To Be Alone”, nie zabrakło kawałka po polsku, bardzo ostrego w słowach. Ale trudno pisać o naszym kraju w inny sposób (Dziwny kraj).
Jak zatem podsumować kolejny album SNAKEDOCTORS? Najprościej będzie napisać – Panowie, świetna robota! Według mnie, kierunek obrany na tej płycie jest właśnie tym kierunkiem, w jaki zespół powinien podążać. Ale żeby się przekonać, czy rzeczywiście tak będzie, muszę posłuchać kolejnego albumu, który już na mnie czeka!

SNAKEDOCTORS is one of the busiest bands in recent years. Even the period of the pandemic does not prevent the boys from playing and promoting their music in every possible way in such specific times. In addition, the need to create new songs overwhelms them so much that they constantly compose, write and record. In 2020, they released the album „Obligation”, and the following year, two more albums appeared. The first one was entitled „Joy Free Bowl”.
For me this album is a great development of its predecessor. As in the case of „Obligation” we get a dozen tracks, mostly in dark and cold wave climate. But there is also a noticeable difference compared to that album. In my opinion, there are fewer references to grunge music in this new music, but more often the band uses alternative – experimental activities of bands from the seventies. At times I even get the impression that the production of many tracks was supervised by… Lou Reed himself. And this, of course, causes a completely different reception of the album, it definitely influences its atmosphere. And what can I add, this change suits me very well.
Because the tracks that I would highlight and that made the greatest impression on me are the ones most associated with Reed’s achievements. Of course, these are not fakes or covers, but they have a similar atmosphere and I regret that the band did not include lyrics on the album, because unfortunately my English does not allow me to understand the band’s texts. And lyrics are extremely important with such music. What are these songs? I’m in a hurry to answer: „Sweeter”, Snake Doctor „, One Way Creature.” Great, atmospheric, economical in means, strong in expression. Just as they should be.
As a curiosity, the disc contains various versions of several songs, it shows that men can play with their music. The ballad „Has To Be Alone” is great, there was also a track in Polish, very sharp in words. But it is difficult to write about our country in any other way (Dziwny Kraj).
So how to sum up the next SNAKEDOCTORS album? The easiest way to write – Gentlemen, great job! In my opinion, the direction taken on this album is exactly the direction the band should go. But to find out if it really will be like that, I have to listen to the next album, which is already waiting for me!
