SNAKEDOCTORS nie próżnuje, ledwo zdążyłem nacieszyć się drugim albumem, na półce już zagościł następny! Nie miałem zatem wyboru, tylko natychmiast sięgnąć po ten krążek. I zrobiłem to to z wielką radością, bowiem muzyka zespołu bardzo mi odpowiada. Ten surowy, momentami bardziej, momentami mniej zimny dark wave/ rock wchodzi w człowieka bez żadnych problemów. Pisząc o dwóch poprzednich płytach wspominałem o pewnych różnicach, przede wszystkim o odchodzeniu z grunge’u w stronę zimnej fali, trzeci album teorię tę potwierdza. Dostajemy bowiem muzykę, która kojarzyć się może z Joy Division („Close That Door””, ale też The Cure, Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim i innymi. Podejrzewam, że każdy może mieć jeszcze jakieś inne skojarzenia. I tak naprawdę nie ma to znaczenia, z kim muzyka będzie nam się kojarzyć, istotne jest to, że Snakedoctors idzie swoją, ściśle określoną drogą, tworzy i przekazuje nam swoją wizję muzyki, która ma w sobie to coś, dlaczego chce się jej słuchać.
Według mnie „Mellow Joy”, jak wskazuje zresztą sam tytuł, jest najłagodniejszą, najłatwiejszą w odbiorze płytą zespołu. Tym razem mniej jest surowości i szorstkości, aczkolwiek wciąż za lekko nie jest… Jest sporo melodii, sporo ciekawego klimatu, wyjątkowej atmosfery, w którą wchodzi się zdecydowanie łatwiej niż na poprzednich płytach. I do wejścia w ten stan wcale nie potrzeba napoju stanowiącego tytuł siódmego utworu…
Moją uwagę zwróciły przede wszystkim takie utwory, jak otwierający krążek, wspomniany już „Close That Door”, świetna ballada w stylu Snakedoctors, czyli „Girl With Sponges”, którą zresztą dostajemy w dwóch wersjach, ocierający się o punk rocka „Got Him Another Girl” (też powtórzony w wersji demo) i „Consecutively Dumb”. Ale nie oznacza to, że tylko te utwory są dobre, wręcz przeciwnie, wszystkie są dobre, wszystkie mają ten specyficzny klimat, a płyta – jak zawsze – stanowi określoną, spójną całość, dlatego najlepiej słuchać jej po prostu w całości.
Na każdym albumie grupy pojawia się też utwór zaśpiewany po polsku. Tym razem panowie zaserwowali nam wspomniany już wyżej utwór „Wódeczka”.
Jak wspomniałem na początku, album jest rozwinięciem drogi, która pojawiła się już na poprzedniej płycie, jest jej bardzo dobrym, ciekawym rozwinięciem. Jest też płytą najłatwiejszą w odbiorze, dlatego spokojnie mogę ją polecić tym, którzy nie znają wcześniejszej twórczości grupy. Tę płytę powinniście polubić bez żadnych przeszkód. A jak ją polubicie, z radością i zainteresowanie sięgniecie po wcześniejsze albumy.

SNAKEDOCTORS is not idle, I barely had time to enjoy my second album, the next one is already on the shelf! So I had no choice but to reach for this album immediately. And I did it with great joy, because the band’s music suits me very well. This raw, sometimes more, sometimes less cold dark wave/ rock enters you without any problems. While writing about the two previous albums, I mentioned some differences, first of all about the departure from grunge towards the cold wave, the third album confirms this theory. We get music that can be associated with Joy Division („Close That Door”), but also The Cure, Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim and others. It does not matter who we associate the music with, the important thing is that Snakedoctors follows its strictly defined path, creates and communicates its vision of music, which has something to do with why you want to listen to it.
In my opinion, „Mellow Joy”, as the title itself indicates, is the softest, easiest in the reception of the band’s album. This time, there is less harshness but it is still not too light … There is a lot of melodies, a lot of interesting unique atmosphere, which is much easier to enter than on the previous albums. And to enter this state, you do not need the drink that is the title of the seventh track…
My attention was primarily drawn to songs such as the opening album, the already mentioned „Close That Door”, a great ballad in the style of Snakedoctors „Girl With Sponges”, which we get in two versions, bordering on punk rock „Got Him Another Girl” (also repeated in the demo version) and „Consecutively Dumb”. But this does not mean that only these songs are good, on the contrary, they are all good, they all have this specific atmosphere, and the album – as always – constitutes a specific, coherent whole, so it’s best to listen to it simply as a whole.
Each album of the group also features a piece sung in Polish. This time, the gentlemen served us the above-mentioned song „Vodka”.
As I mentioned at the beginning, the album is a development of the path that appeared on the previous album, it is a very good, interesting development. It is also the easiest album to listen to, so I can safely recommend it to those who do not know the band’s previous work. You should like this album without any problems. And if you like it, you will reach for the previous albums with joy and interest.
